Despite the pandemic affecting school systems nationwide last semester, Cincinnati Public Schools is saying nearly the same number of students took AP tests during the spring 2020 semester compared to the spring 2019 semester.

When you do the math you can't go wrong with a job in the STEM fields. According to Careercast.com, mathematicians rank No. 2 among the best careers in 2018. The demand for experts who can do statistical analysis is growing in all business sectors and that need is expected to lead to a 23% increase in demand by 2022.

Educator Robin Stevens Payes has created a media company called Edge of Yesterday to help encourage more interest in STEM/STEAM education among tweens/teens.

According to the National Science + Math Initiative, only 44 percent of U.S. high school graduates are ready for college-level math and 36 percent are ready for college-level science. 

In what often seems like a long time ago in a galaxy far away, going to summer camp meant hiking, fishing, maybe learning how to tie knots. Fortunately those camps still exist, but along with them today are programs for kids who want to learn about digital journalism, JAVA game programming, Aeronautics, and other science and math based subjects.

Over the last several years education and business leaders have been increasing Science, Technology, Engineering and Math programs, or STEM, in schools. Technical skills will be required in 80% of all jobs in the next decade.


  The ever-increasing volume of information produced each day that touches virtually every aspect of our lives demands a continued supply of trained professionals to properly manage how that information is processed, stored, distributed and protected. A recent survey showed information technology hiring will increase up to 26% this year.

Queen City Chess Classic Starts Today

The 13th Annual Queen City Classic Chess Tournament  takes place today and tomorrow. Presented by Cris Collinsworth Proscan Fund and sponsored by The Cincinnati Bengals, the Queen City Classic attracts hundreds of young chess players to Paul Brown Stadium for two days of fun, competition, and opportunities to learn from grand masters of the game. The Pomeranz family started the Queen City Classic in 2002. Cris Collinsworth ProScan Fund Executive Director Maggie Fennell and Cody Pomeranz discuss the tournament, and efforts to teach local students the game  of chess.
