The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra has announced the popular “Lumenocity” event will be returning to Washington Park in August for a third year. But unlike the previous two concerts, this year people will have to pay to attend.
The 2015 “Lumenocity” will take place for five-nights from August 5 through 9. It features a 3-D image projection mapping on the front of Music Hall choreographed to music performed by the CSO.
The Orchestra said in a press release it decided to charge a small fee for the event rather than not present it. It said the estimated cost to produce this year’s event will be $1.4 million. The CSO said it does not have enough philanthropic support to fund this year’s production.
People wanting to attend may register now through May 16 to purchase tickets on the “Lumenocity” website. After the deadline, randomly selected individuals will receive a code to purchase tickets through Ticketmaster. You will be limited to four tickets per household for any of the performances. The CSO and Ticketmaster will be waiving any service charge fee.

- Wednesday, August 5 Dress rehearsal-$15 admission
- Thursday, August 6 performance-$18 admission
- Friday, August 7 performance-$20 admission
- Saturday, August 8 performance-$20 admission
- Sunday, August 9 performance-$18 admission
All performances and the dress rehearsal will begin at 8:30 p.m.
The event site at Washington Park will be limited to 6,000 people per night. That number was lowered from previous years after consultations with the Cincinnati Police and Fire Departments for safety issues.
The CSO will be giving ten percent of available tickets to local human services organizations to be distributed free to families and clients. In addition, the Orchestra’s 2015-16 season subscribers and donors ($250 or more) will be eligible for pre-sale access.
People getting tickets will not be able to transfer them to another performance, and the events will go on “rain or shine.”
This year’s “Lumenocity” will be broadcast live on 90.9 WGUC on Friday, August 7. The Saturday performance will air on CET (Ch. 48) and WCPO (Ch. 9).
The CSO said final details about the musical program will be announced at a later date. Creative partner Brave Berlin, working with the orchestra and music director Louis Langree, will again design the projection mapping. Pops conductor John Morris Russell’s program is also to be announced.
