The pre-Oscar buzz keeps growing for “Carol,” the CateBlanchett-Rooney Mara film shot in Cincinnati last year.

“Carol” was nominated for five Golden Globe Awards Thursday morning: best actress for both Blanchett and Mara, best drama motion picture, best director for Todd Haynes and best original score.

In the Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations announced Wednesday, Blanchett was listed among the best actress candidates and Mara for supporting actress. “Carol” was not nominated for a SAG best picture award.

The Golden Globe and SAG awards are often an indication for the film industry’s top prize, the Academy Awards. Oscar nominations will be announced Thursday, Jan. 14, four days after the Golden Globe telecast Jan. 10 on NBC.

“Carol” already has won best picture at the Cannes Film Festival, the Chicago International Film Festival and the New York Film Critics Circle Award. Mara was named best actress at Cannes last May.

Haynes has picked up best director awards from Cannes, the New York Film Critics Circle Awards and the Boston Society of Film Critics Awards. He will be here Saturday for the local “Carol” premiere organized by the Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky Film Commission.

All of "Carol" was filmed here in March-April 2014, with Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky locations providing the backdrop for the drama set in and around New York City in 1952. Blanchett plays Carol Aird, a wealthy unhappily married suburbanite, who romantically pursues young store clerk  Therese Belivet (Mara).

Kristen Erwin Schlotman, film commission executive director, will talk about "Carol," Mariah Carey's "A Christmas Melody" and other local films on 91.7 WVXU's "Cincinnati Edition" 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15.

“Carol” opens in area theaters on Dec. 25.
