Cincinnati Reds mascot Rosie Red sits in empty stands during a baseball game against the St. Louis Cardinals at Great American Ball Park, in Cincinnati, Sept. 1, 2020.

Like so much in 2020, the Cincinnati Reds baseball season was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic: the game schedule was reduced, no fans were permitted at stadiums, and what had been expected to be a big year for the home team turned out to be rather lackluster.

However, the Reds ended the season on a relative hot streak, winning seven of their last 10 games and finishing above .500 at 31-29.

This year, baseball is back to a full schedule and fans will be returning to Great American Ball Park, though at a reduced 30% capacity for now, since the virus is still with us.

Like last year, pre-season optimism abounds.

Joining Cincinnati Edition to talk about the upcoming Reds season, ahead of Thursday's Opening Day, are Reds President and COO Phil Castellini; Cincinnati Enquirer sports reporter Charlie Goldsmith; and sports journalist and author John Erardi.

Listen to Cincinnati Edition live at noon M-F. Audio for this segment will be uploaded after 4 p.m. ET.
