Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley is asking council to interview Acting City Manger Patrick Duhaney and Assistant Manager John Juech for the permanent job.
Cranley emailed council members about his decision Monday.

Dear Members of City Council: Over the past few months I have given a great deal of thought to who should become our permanent city manager. After considering many options, there are two qualified candidates, Patrick Duhaney and John Juech, that I would like City Council to interview and provide the opportunity to give advice to me before I make a recommendation to City Council for approval. I have great confidence in John and Patrick based on their past and current performance. Please take time to interview with both of these candidates. I plan to meet with you all individually to hear any and all feedback on each candidate upon my return from the economic development trip to China. I will make a final recommendation to City Council thereafter. Sincerely, John

Some council member has expressed a desire for a national search for the job, but the mayor has the final say in that process. Council's only role in the process is to confirm the mayor's selection.

The city has been without a permanent city manager since Harry Black resigned in April minutes before city council was set to vote on starting the process to fire him. You can learn more about Patrick Duhaney here and John Juech here
