P&G's Latest: A Robot That Brings You Toilet Paper And An AI-Powered Toothbrush

The Oral-B iO has a smart pressure sensor, seven brushing modes and artificial intelligence tracking.

Visitors to this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas were wowed by Procter & Gamble's beauty and bathroom technology.

P&G's Patrick Blair says the new Oral-B iO toothbrushis "hard to explain but wonderful to experience." He says a frictionless magnetic drive powers the rotating oscillating bristles for a professional clean.

Wondering if you're applying too much pressure? A smart pressure sensor provides positive brushing feedback. "So, if you're brushing too hard it goes red," Blair says. "If your brushes are perfect it gives you green." There's even a face smiling or frowning to show you how you're doing.

Seven brush modes help users personalize his or her experience. Artificial intelligence tracking helps you know how well it's going. Blair says the Oral-B iO brush will be in the $200 range when it goes on sale this summer.

CNET got a demonstration of the brush and some of P&G's other technology at CES, including a robot that brings you a roll of toilet paper.

SmellSense, another technology that can make your bathroom experience more pleasant, was the subject of plenty of potty puns. It can detect carbon dioxide or hydrogen sulfide.

"It lets you plan ahead and check how the bathroom smells without having to experience it yourself," Blair says. "It notifies you of the status of the stench and this has a go, no-go display."

Another product that goes on sale this summer is one WVXU told you about last year, Opté. Blair said heiress Paris Hilton stopped by the P&G booth last week to try it out.
