Joint Cincinnati council/school board meetings continue

Earlier this year some Cincinnati Council members and city public school officials announced plans for joint meetings.  The second such session was held Monday night and another is likely to be held next month.

The effort is called ACES, or Alliance for Community and Educational Success.  Council Member P.G. Sittenfeld was one of the organizers.

“I think ultimately as a city councilman I think about our school system as one of our most powerful tools for growth,” Sittenfeld said.  “These are our future employees, our future neighbors, our future citizens.  So anything the city can do to align its own resources and its efforts to benefit the school system, that’s ultimately going to life the tide for all boats, and be a good thing for everybody.”

The city’s health department already operates health clinics in some school buildings and the city’s police department provides school resources officers.  Sittenfeld said council and the school board want to build on these successes.

“Our big picture goal for this is everything from population growth, to greater technological access in more of our neighborhoods to greater safety in more of our neighborhoods,” Sittenfeld said.

So far those attending the joint meetings have heard from the city's police chief, recreation director and budget officials from the city and the school district.
