Recently, a curriculum that explores America's racist history has drawn fire from conservatives across the country and prompted legislation to keep it from being taught in public schools.

That's true in Ohio and Kentucky, where lawmakers have drafted bills seeking to ban what's called critical race theory (also known as CRT). But what is CRT? How do its supporters describe it? And is it actually being taught in local schools?

Joining Cincinnati Edition to discuss these questions are Ohio State Rep. Jean Schmidt, co-sponsor of an anti-CRT bill; and Monita Mungo, Ph.D., sociology professor at the University of Toledo

Listen to Cincinnati Edition live at noon M-F. Audio for this segment will be uploaded after 4 p.m. ET.
