Pop star Mariah Carey will make her directorial debut while starring in a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie here in October.
The Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Film Commission announcement of Carey’s “Melody & Mistletoe” comes five days after news of the Bruce Willis-Dave Bautista “Marauders” movie to be filmed here later this month.
Both films, which could be shooting at the same time, need extras and crew.
“Melody & Mistletoe” will feature the Grammy winner's Christmas song, “Oh Santa,” says the Motion Picture Corporation of America, which will produce the film with Brad Krevoy.
USA Today says Carey “will portray a music teacher who helps a young girl who is new in town write a song for the town's Christmas show.” The story says “Melody & Mistletoe” will premiere 8 p.m. Dec. 19.
Bill Abbott, president of Crown Media Family Networks, praised Carey’s ability to handle multiple jobs at the same time. “She is exceptionally smart and savvy. Getting to know her a little bit, I'm amazed at her capacity to multi-task,” he tells USA Today.
Two years ago, Krevoy and the MPCA produced Nicollette Sheridan’s “The Christmas Spirit” mostly in Lebanon. As with “The Christmas Spirit,” the Carey film will be shot in October and premiere on the Hallmark Channel in December, the Hallmark Channel announced July.
No co-stars were announced for “Melody & Mistletoe” by the film commission.
“We are ecstatic to have MPCA back in Cincinnati,” said Schlotman, film commission executive director, in a media release. “We have been setting a tremendous pace this year and we are seeing our production industry grow tremendously in 2015.”
