We're heading down to New Orleans for Mardi Gras on the Blues!

With Fat Tuesday around the corner, this week's blues show (Sat, 2/25 at 11pm) is full of toe-tappin', soul reviving music from New Orleans.  You'll hear from local piano legend Ricky Nye, Beau Jocque, the Jambalaya Cajun Band, and a favorite...Mr. Zachary Richard.  The second set starts off with the Honey Island Swamp Band, then Galactic, Dr. John, and Louis Armstrong.  And the last set features the Rebirth Brass Band, Professor Longhair, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, The Pentones, and Johnny Adams.

Ricky Nye's playing with Ben Levin at Mardi Gras on Madison on Fat Tuesday from 6:30-9pm...1524 Madison Road.  His album, Gettin' Loose! with Ricky Nye, is the one I played a song from.

And, here's a linkto the poetry of Zachary Richard who bumped into Alan Ginsberg in New Orleans in 1968 and got his poetry writing career started.

New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festivalruns from April 28th through May 7th.  A number of these musicians in this show will be featured there.

This year, Jazz Fest honors Cuba with the largest celebration of Cuban culture in the U.S. since the 1950’s. Over 150 Cuban artists have been invited.
