Marilyn Harris, Dale Donovan Dropped In iHeartMedia Cuts

Jan 14, 2020

Cooking guru Marilyn Harris and auto expert Dale Donovan were among the Cincinnati radio cutbacks at iHeartMedia's Kenwood facility in massive nationwide cuts after the company announced a "new organizational structure" and "technology transformation" to modernize the company with "Centers of Excellence."

Harris, a local radio personality for more than 30 years, and Donovan hosted weekend "how to" shows on WKRC-AM.

Also losing their jobs were Danny Scott, known as DJ Sab on WKFS-FM (KISS 107); production producers Ranger Bob (Mark Erickson) and Dave Cuddohy; and some board operators in the Kenwood studios for news/talk WLW-AM and WKRC-AM; rock stations WEBN-FM and WKFS-FM; ESPN WCKY-AM; Fox Sports WSAI-AM; hip-hop FM 102.3 The Beat; and The Project on 100.7 and 106.3 FM.

Radio message boards and social media lit up Tuesday with iHeartMedia cuts from coast to coast in what could be the biggest one-day job elimination in radio history.

In Louisville, the Courier-Journal said University of Louisville play-by-play announcer Paul Rogers was told Tuesday that "my position was eliminated and my services were no longer needed" after 47 years.  Afternoon hosts John Ramsey and Mike Rutherford on Louisville's WKRD-AM also were told their show was canceled, the paper said.

RadioInsight reported cutbacks in Louisville (Leland Conway at WHAS-AM, production director Mark Stahr) and Indianapolis (Jake Query and Derek Schultz on Sports 1260 WNDE).

All Access says "Dent" lost his job as program director at Dayton's WTUE-FM and WZDA-FM.

Online postings showed cutbacks at stations in Canton; Cleveland; Atlanta; Ashville, N.C.; Austin; Baltimore; Dallas; Des Moines; Farmington, N.M.; Fort Lauderdale; Fort Smith, Ark.; Huntsville, Ala.; Jacksonville; Little Rock; Madison, Wisc.; Nashville; Oklahoma City;  Philadelphia,  Portsmouth, N.H.; Rochester N.Y.; Sussex N.J.; Syracuse; Waco, Texas; and Wichita.
