Public hearings on indigent care levy

Monday night is the first of two public hearings on Hamilton County's indigent care levy.

The levy is slated for the November ballot. It provides funding to the UC Medical Center, Children's Hospital and several other agencies to cover healthcare for the poor.

County Commissioners are considering how the Affordable Care Act should affect the levy rate. A consultant's report suggests Obamacare would have a net impact of $15.5 million in 2017 for UCMC and $2.1 million for Children's.

The current indigent care levy costs about $51 per every $100,000 of home value. The first hearing is Monday at 5:30 p.m. at the County Administration Building (138 East Court Street, Downtown, Room 610). The second is Tuesday at the same time and location.
