City Gospel Mission, a provider of food, shelter and recovery programs, is honoring Cincinnati's baseball past by bringing Crosley Field back to life.
Even before it moved to the Crosley Field site in 2015 the agency was working with the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum to remember the Reds' home from 1912-1970.
Beginning Wednesday the public can relive the past. Visitors to 1805 Dalton Ave., Cincinnati can:
- Take a self-guided tour (brochures in the lobby of City Gospel Mission)
- See historical photos on site from the Reds Hall of Fame
- Get a look at base markers
- See replicas of foul poles, a light tower and seats
According to City Gospel Mission president Roger Howell, "The purpose of the project is to acknowledge and preserve the history of the field that means so much to the Reds, fans, and city, offering a chance for visitors to experience that history in a significant way."
Howell says the jewel of the site is a 17 x 50' mural depicting Crosley Field circa mid-1950s created by Keep Cincinnati Beautiful.
"We are pleased to play a role in preserving this important place in the city's long and stories baseball legacy, said Rick Walls, executive director of the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum.
In addition, Walls says there is an opportunity to purchase commemorative bricks.
