Don't be surprised if you see a passenger or two pull out a pie, a casserole or even a whole turkey while being screened at the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport. TSA has rules for that.
Yes, Turkeys Can Fly
Regional Spokesman Mark Howell says anything you can spread, spray, pump or pour will likely have to go into your checked luggage. "Your solid foods are going to be fine to take through," he says. "It you're taking turkey, some casserole, pies are OK through the screening security checkpoint. What you need to think about are those liquid-based items, your gravies."
If you are not sure, you can take a picture of the dish ahead of time and send it to "Ask TSA" on Facebook Messenger.
Remember, you can't carry on knives or wine. Both have to be checked.
Friday Started The Holiday Travel Season
CVG will screen an estimated 123,000 passengers this holiday season. TSA's Howell projected 14,000 people a day would fly out this past weekend. The next busiest time is the weekend after Thanksgiving. He suggests getting to the airport two hours before your plane leaves; three hours if the flight is international.
