WKRC-TV Bumps 'Harry' For More Local News

WKRC-TV
Bob Herzog and Sheila Gray from WKRC-TV's "Good Morning Cincinnati"

WKRC-TV adds another hour to "Good Morning Cincinnati" on Oct. 2 by bumping Harry Connick Jr.'s "Harry" to WSTR-TV.

Channel 12 will air the Bob Herzog-Sheila Gray local news 9-10 a.m. opposite WXIX-TV's "Fox 19 News Morning Xtra," Channel 9's Kelly Ripa-Ryan Seacret "Live with Kelly & Ryan" and Channel 5's telecast of NBC's new "Megyn Kelly Today." Kelly, the former Fox News anchor, takes over the 9 a .m. hour of the "Today" show on Monday, Sept. 25.

The expansion doesn't surprise me. I expected Channel 12 to add more hours to its morning news since the stationlured Gray from Channel 19in 2013, where she was morning co-anchor for more than a decade.  She debuted on Channel 12 in March 2014.

"Harry" still will be seen at 9 a.m. in October – but on sister Sinclair station WSTR-TV (Channel 64), in place of the "Jerry Springer" show. "Harry" was fourth in the local overnight household ratings in May sweeps, and so far in the September ratings, at 9 a.m. behind Channel 19, "Kelly & Ryan" and the "Today" show.

"Springer," which has aired at 9 a.m. weekdays for years on Channel 64, will move to 1 p.m. The former Cincinnati mayor and city councilman started his 27th season on daytime TV Sept. 11.

Starting in October, WKRC-TV will air 5-1/2 hours of "Good Morning Cincinnati" –  4:25-7 a.m. on Channel 12, then 7-9 a.m. on Channel 64, and back to Channel 12 for 9-10 a.m.

WXIX-TV airs 6-1/2 hours of morning news 4:30-11 a.m. on Channel 19.
