County budget hearings begin Thursday

The first of several public hearings on the proposed 2015 Hamilton County general fund budget is Thursday evening.

Commissioners will hold a meeting at the Green Township Trustee building at 6:30 p.m.

The county administrator is recommending a $210.7 million spending plan that calls for a quarter cent sales tax increase.

The document will almost certainly be changing. Commissioner Chris Monzel's office has already indicated the proposed tax increase is a non-starter.

Commissioners are working on alternative proposals.

Two more hearings are set for Oct. 29 and 30. A fourth is expected to be announced once the alternative budgets are presented.

The board aims to vote on a final budget by Thanksgiving.

Hearing times and locations:

  • October 23 at 6:30 pm at the Green Township Trustee's Main Meeting Room
  • October 29 at 11:30 am at County Administration building
  • October 30 at 6:30 pm at the Sycamore Township administration building.
